Wellness & Retreat News: August 2026

Published August 8, 2026

A short roundup of dated wellness and retreat news from the past few weeks. This edition runs from Los Cabos to North Yorkshire and on to Tenerife, three properties that have opened the spa as the main event rather than a side room off the pool. As always, confirm opening dates, treatments and rates directly with each property before you plan a trip.

Park Hyatt Cabo del Sol opens the 59,000 sq ft Saria Spa in Los Cabos

Park Hyatt Cabo del Sol in Los Cabos, Mexico, has launched Saria Spa, a 59,000 square foot wellness floor the group describes as the largest of its kind in the region. The 163-key hotel, the first Park Hyatt in Mexico, opened in December 2025, and the spa now completes its wellness offer.

Saria takes its name from an ancient Pericu deity linked to protecting the ocean, and its ten treatment rooms lean on native ingredients such as agave, sea salt, avocado and Baja clays, with skincare from Biologique Recherche and Alqvimia. Facilities include an indoor hydrotherapy pool, an outdoor lap pool, a sauna, three relaxation zones set over water, a Technogym fitness suite, a yoga studio and a hair and nail salon. The opening was reported on 4 August 2026 by Spa Business.

Gisborough Hall debuts the Sakura Spa in North Yorkshire

Gisborough Hall, a four-star country house hotel near Guisborough in North Yorkshire, has opened a new destination spa called Sakura Spa, a project first announced in August 2025. The estate has been owned by the Chaloner family since 1570, and the spa sits within its woodland garden alongside the hotel's 59 rooms and three shepherd huts.

Sakura is Japanese for cherry blossom, and the spa is built around a nature-led concept with six treatment rooms, three thermal cabins, cold plunge facilities and a seven-metre vitality pool in the garden. Skincare comes from Bamford and Elemis, and one room houses a vibroacoustic sound lounger for treatments. The debut was reported on 7 August 2026 by Spa Business.

Gran Hotel Taoro completes its restoration with the Sandara Wellness Centre in Tenerife

Gran Hotel Taoro, above the Orotava Valley in northern Tenerife, has finished a three-year restoration with the opening of its Sandara Wellness Centre. The 199-key property first opened in 1890 and has been redeveloped into a five-star hotel by the island council of Tenerife.

The holistic spa has three single and two double treatment rooms, a sauna and Turkish bath by Klafs, experience showers overlooking the botanical gardens and a Technogym fitness suite, with treatments by Anne Semonin. A bespoke mural by Canarian artist Ione Dominguez roots the space in its island setting. The opening was reported on 17 July 2026 by Spa Business.
