The Best Wellness Retreats in Maryland: Three Picks, From a Silent Retreat Center to an Eastern Shore Spa and a Farm Campus

The best wellness retreats in Maryland cover three very different kinds of rest. Dayspring, in Germantown, runs led silent weekends for $325 with meals and a private room. The SPA at Perry Cabin, in St. Michaels, is a waterfront resort spa on the Eastern Shore. And Pearlstone, near Baltimore, is a 180-acre farm and forest campus for group getaways and holiday retreats.

1. Dayspring Silent Retreat Center, Germantown

Off Neelsville Church Road, Germantown, MD. Dayspring is an ecumenical silent retreat center on 210 acres of forest and fields in upper Montgomery County, reached from the Washington Beltway via I-270 North. It describes itself as "a sacred place set aside for silence, solitude, reflection and prayer," and says visitors have been coming for 70 years. The grounds have walking paths, streams, ponds, benches and a stone labyrinth.

Overnight guests stay in the Inn, which has 18 single rooms, each with a twin bed, armchair, writing desk and sink, with shared bathrooms in the hallway. Bedding and towels are provided, and there is one accessible room to request when you register. Everyone gathers in the Lodge, which has a sitting room with a fireplace, a small library, and the dining room.

  • Weekend retreats run from Friday dinner to Sunday lunch. Silence begins on Friday evening once the leader introduces the theme, with brief reflections on Saturday morning and evening, and ends after Sunday breakfast. The cost is $325, with a $150 deposit to register.
  • Meals are homemade, family style and vegetarian, including eggs and dairy, and guests take turns helping serve and clear.
  • Quiet Days run from 10am to 2pm at the Lodge on a weekday: a short opening reflection, then silence to walk, read or pray, and a brief sharing at the end. Bring a bag lunch.

Retreats fill early. When we checked in late October 2026, the November weekend and the 11 November Quiet Day were already full with waitlists, and another Quiet Day was listed for 16 December. Dayspring also hosts groups for quiet days and weekends; contact it for rates. If you are new to silence, read our explainer on silent retreats first.

2. SPA at Perry Cabin, St. Michaels

Inn at Perry Cabin, St. Michaels, MD. For a retreat built around rest rather than silence, the Inn at Perry Cabin is a waterfront resort on the Miles River in the old harbor town of St. Michaels, on Maryland's Eastern Shore. The resort dates its history to 1815, and its spa says it is the only Forbes Four-Star spa on the Eastern Shore.

The spa has seven treatment rooms, including a private couples suite, a relaxation lounge with an outdoor terrace, and a steam room. Treatments use herbs and aromatics grown in the Inn's own gardens and ingredients from nearby farms: massages (Swedish, deep tissue, hot stone and aromatherapy), an Eastern Shore Herbal Wrap and Chesapeake Bay Salt Scrub, facials, and nail services. Overnight guests also get a zero-edge outdoor pool, 24-hour fitness access and select wellness activities such as morning yoga.

The spa is open 9am to 5pm, seven days a week. Treatments can be booked online, by phone on +1-443-258-2228 or by email at guestservices@perrycabinresorts.com. Prices are not posted on the main spa page, so check the treatments menu before you book. A spa stay pairs naturally with a walk around St. Michaels or time on the water; for more spa-led options across the country, see our best spa and wellness retreats in the USA.

3. Pearlstone, Reisterstown

5425 Mt Gilead Road, Reisterstown, MD 21136. Pearlstone is a 180-acre campus of forest, hills, meadows and organic farmland about 30 minutes northwest of Baltimore, run by Adamah, a Jewish nonprofit. It welcomes people of all ages, backgrounds and faiths, and says it hosts around 15,000 visitors a year.

There are three ways to use it for a retreat:

  • A private getaway. Pearlstone rents a cabin and the Woodleaf vacation home, which has seven bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms, sleeps up to 15, and has a wood-burning fireplace, screened porch, fire pit and private pool, with direct access to the campus trails. It suits a family or a group of friends planning their own retreat.
  • A group retreat. Organizations can rent the retreat center, with conference rooms, farm-to-table dining and overnight lodging.
  • Adamah's own retreats, built around the Jewish calendar, including Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, Passover and Shavuot, and a Mother's Day rest weekend.

Rates are by inquiry, so contact Pearlstone with your dates and group size.

When to go

Maryland's spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for walking the grounds at Dayspring and Pearlstone, and the Eastern Shore is at its best from May to October, when the outdoor pool at Perry Cabin is most inviting and the harbor is busy. Winter is quieter and can be a good time for a silent weekend, but expect cold, short days. Book Dayspring weekends well ahead, since they sell out.

How to choose

  • You want real silence and a gentle structure: Dayspring. A leader holds the weekend, and the silence does the rest.
  • You want comfort and treatments: the SPA at Perry Cabin.
  • You are organizing a retreat for family, friends or a team: Pearlstone's vacation home or retreat center.
